Comme des Garçons Sculptural Cropped Jacket – Runway Spring/Summer 2005 – Size S
Condition: Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
A striking and highly collectible runway piece from Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons Spring/Summer 2005 collection, a season built around the exploration of sculptural outerwear and exaggerated architectural silhouettes. This cropped jacket embodies Kawakubo’s avant-garde design language, transforming a classic garment into a piece of wearable sculpture.
Crafted in Japan from textured black wool with interior padding, the jacket features bold structural paneling that creates a sculpted, dimensional shape around the shoulders and torso. A rounded Peter Pan–style collar softens the otherwise architectural form, while the dramatic cropped length enhances the volume and proportion of the design. Dual front zippers and exposed seam details emphasize the experimental construction, and a side D-ring belt detail allows for subtle shaping.
The Spring/Summer 2005 runway show prominently featured variations of this jacket in multiple fabrics, colors, and textures, making it one of the defining silhouettes of the collection. Seen styled with dramatic layered skirts and sculptural accessories on the runway, it exemplifies Kawakubo’s vision of challenging traditional tailoring and redefining the relationship between garment and body.
A rare archival Comme des Garçons piece that functions as both fashion and art.
